Airbus names Moraleda as new Board Chair

Airbus has named Amparo Moraleda as its new Chair of the Board of Directors, effective October 1, 2026. She succeeds René Obermann, who will step down after eight years in the role. Obermann will join SAP as incoming Chairman of its Supervisory Board, following his April 2026 announcement of his departure from Airbus.

Until the next Annual General Meeting in April 2027, Christophe Fouquet, CEO of ASML, has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director. Fouquet will run for a full three-year term at the 2027 AGM. Additionally, Jean-Pierre Clamadieu has informed the Board he will not renew his term upon expiration, and Florent Menegaux, CEO of Michelin, has been chosen to replace him for a three-year period.

Moraleda and Oliver Zipse, who previously served as Chairman of BMW’s Board of Management, will both seek renewed mandates at the 2027 AGM. The Board also appointed Mark Dunkerley as Chair of the Remuneration, Nomination and Governance Committee, taking over from Moraleda in these responsibilities.

Obermann’s tenure included managing Airbus’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and advancing innovation in aerospace and defense. Moraleda’s leadership will continue these efforts as Airbus addresses new strategic priorities. The transition aligns with the company’s need for fresh perspectives as it prepares for upcoming governance decisions.

Guillaume Faury, Airbus CEO, praised Obermann’s leadership as “exceptional” and expressed confidence in the new Board’s ability to maintain growth over the long term.

The restructuring reflects Airbus’s intention to strengthen its governance structure ahead of the 2027 AGM, where shareholder approval will be required for key appointments. Moraleda’s experience in telecommunications and energy sectors supports Airbus’s need for diverse industry knowledge as it adapts to changing market conditions.

Obermann’s move to SAP follows his April 2026 announcement, marking the end of his eight-year tenure at Airbus.
